Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
-My measurements don’t correspond to the measurements given. What should I do?
It’s easy to alter this pattern. For example, if you measure one size across the chest and another at the waist, simply follow the lines on the upper part of the pattern which match your chest measurement. Then gradually taper in or out to the size which matches your waist measurement. When buying fabric, buy the amount for the larger size.
Questions about our Swimwear Pattern
-Is it difficult to sew with 4-way stretch lycra swimming suit material?
Surprisingly, I find that this material is pretty much just like any normal material you might sew with. As long as you are constantly stretching the material as you sew, 4-way stretch lycra material is usually very
easy to work with and forgiving if you make a mistake.
-Where can I find 4-way-stretch lycra swimwear fabric?
If you're wanting good quality, the best place I would recommend that you look first are your local fabric stores. Being able to actually see and feel the material gives you a lot better chance of buying good quality material. I personally like to buy mine at JoAnn's and Hancock Fabrics. If you're wanting to find fabric at a cheaper price, look on e-bay. They have some great deals on lycra swimwear fabric! If you want specific websites that sell swimwear fabric, email me and I'll give you a few starters.
-Where can I find “chlorine resistant” elastic?
You can find this kind of elastic at most any fabric store but you have to read the back label to find out whether it’s chlorine resistant or not. Believe it or not, I have found that most elastic is actually chlorine resistant!
-What kind of needle and thread should I use?
Size 11 or 12 ballpoint needles are what are recommended when sewing on lycra but I've had no trouble when using other "normal" needles. As far as thread goes, mostly any polyester/cotton thread works as long as you are stretching the fabric while sewing.

-Where do I buy bra cups?
-You can buy these at most any local fabric store or an online fabric store. One of my personal favorite places to buy them is: sewsassy.com.
